For The Love Of Ray-J

For the Love of Ray J is a reality love show on VH1 featuring singer Ray J. This show follows a format similar to Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, or I Love New York.
The show premiered on February 2, 2009. It seems to follow the crew of females to the hottest, most hip hangouts in LA to Las Vegas, partying all the way of course. Along their journey they have met some famous friends of Ray J. They also get to meet Ray J’s sister, hip hop singer Brandy.
Like other reality love shows, the girl go through a series of contests and challenges in hopes of winning the Love of Ray J. They pour their heart out and shed many tears in the spotlight for all of America to see! Unlike most other reality shows I’ve seen this one seems to be focused on the women more and pampering them. They seem to be treated to many upscale trips and luxuries that most other shows don’t incorporate into their format. The other shows just show a lot of drinking and partying, not necessarily in luxury!
Like all other reality love shows on VH1, the female contestant s are given “special” names by the star who is looking for love. In shows like Real Chance of Love we’ve seen names like Corn Fed, Cali, Risky, and Stalker! On I Love New York we’ve seen Buddha, Real, Chance, and Tailor Made. Ray J followed along these lines and has named girls such as Cashmere, Unique and Hot Cocoa.
I can honestly say that I haven’t gotten sucked into this show as much as I have others, but I it goes with my theme of reality love shows and deserves a mention!

MUD BOWL ROUND 3

This week on Rock of Love brought the third annual mud wrestling match. Apparently Brett believes the woman of his dreams will win his heart in no other place but the muddy terrain of a football field! Beverly, who has previously showed her loyalty (or should I say lack of) by kissing one of Brett’s band members began to get fed up with the “Blondtourage” as she refers to the girls with blonde hair! As the women go into the mud bowl Brett divides them into two teams, The Fallen Angels and The Sweethearts. As this show progresses there is a separation between the girls, I would classify it as one group of girls being blonde and the other being brunette! These girls are clearly looking for fame not love…but who cares right? We will still watch the show.
As the football game pans out, we saw our usually drama and craziness. Ashley even had to stop to apply her pink lip gloss after she stated that she would never be friends with anyone who wore brown lip gloss (hence the mud on her lips)! In the end The Sweethearts win the game. As a prize Brett decides to treat the entire winning team to a date, but even better he decided to pick a game MVP. The girl who would be picked as a MVP would be able to fly solo with Brett to a show in Texas and spend the night with him. Everyone was surprised he picked Mindy as she seems to be one of the “more lame” girls as the other girls would say; basically she doesn’t embarrass herself all that much compared to the others!
The third annual mud bowl is over…THANK GOODNESS, and as I’m betting there will probably be a fourth…and perhaps a fifth in the future!

As if there weren’t enough!

After a week break for the show, last night VH1 brought us a new episode of Rock of Love. Last night’s competition consisted of the girls getting in three groups of three. Each group nominated a captain and was assigned an ‘ugly’ girl as their ‘project’!
The girls seemed really excited and eager to make these plain Jane girls into rock n roll princesses! They worked hard for an hour and then presented their girls. Bret was so shocked at the transformations that he actually asked the three girls to stay and join his tour of love! The original crew of girls gave mixed emotions about his decision. Some girls stood up and clapped and some girls cried!
Bret was upset when the girls clapped. He actually stated that the reason he asked these three girls to join was because he wasn’t feeling any connections with any of the original girls. Come on now…does he actually think he is going to find love? All these girls are crazy and looking for one thing…fame, not love! He even made the comment last night that he felt like these girls are just on tour with him to party.
After everything was said and done, one girl was very upset, Ashley. She talked to Bret and expressed herself and apparently she won a personal date with him later that evening in his bus. I guess seeing a girl cry over him was all it took to win Bret’s heart on last night’s Rock of Love episode.

Let's Take A Week Off!!!

Reality love TV is great, but I need a week off! So instead of watching a reality love show this week I decided I would talk a little about the history of these shows that we all have came to love (or hate)! When I thought about the question of when in fact reality shows began I first thought of The Real World on MTV. I did some research and realized that I was in fact right! Reality television did in fact begin on MTV with The Real World back in 1992.
Granted I was only eight in 1992, I can say that I remember watching The Real World. I can remember thinking how “cool” the people were that were on the show. I guess in a way this could still be applied to reality shows that we all watch today. I’m sure it is safe to say that some people (especially younger adults/kids) watch these shows and like some things that they see and think that the people are in fact “cool”. Anywhere from the clothing that the people wear to the way that they talk can be considered “cool” and in fact can be imitated by viewers at home. This is a major example of how the media influences us a society. In the case of most reality shows that I watch/have watched it would be correct to say that the behaviors/ideas/dress that are displayed by the contestants/participants on these shows is in fact negative and should not be imitated by people at home! It is sad but true that we are socially taught to admire and adhere to what we are exposed to via the media.
These reality shows definitely go back awhile and their affects seem to be consistent throughout the years. The producers of these shows want to lure us in with the drama and chaos that surrounds strangers as they get thrown into a house and have to live with each other (and are usually competing with one another for something, which makes things even crazier). Though some things have changed in regards to these reality television shows (clothing styles), some things do in fact stay the same (bad attitudes).
